Yahweh’s Plan and Purpose for The Son Part 2: The Son’s Identity
The focus of this article will be on the identity of the Son of Yahweh, as revealed to us in Scriptures from the New Testament.
In this article, I will cite some Scriptures that stand out as important (as I believe Yahweh guided me) to learning about the true identity of the Son of Yahweh, Yahshua. I will also propose answers to possible questions that seekers of truth may ask about who the Son truly is.
Thank you Father Yahweh for your Son who taught us of your greatness!
John 10:29 “My Father which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.”
Did Yahshua Messiah ever say that we should worship Him?
John 4:23-24 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Yahweh is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
*Did you notice that Yahshua did not say "worshipers shall worship me," nor "they that worship me"? I think this is an important point which may affect worship, as people who believe in Oneness/Trinity doctrines mistakenly believe that they can call on the Son in worship because He is equal to the Father; yet Yahshua clearly teaches here that worship is to the Father.
Did Yahshua Messiah, the Son of Yahweh, ever say that he WAS/IS EQUAL TO the Father?
In the continued conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well, we read:
John 4:25-26 “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Messiah: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Yahshua saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.”
*Did you notice that Yahshua didn't correct the woman and say he was the Father, nor that he was a part of a duo Father/Messiah combo, nor part of a triune deity?
To whom was Yahshua praying/talking to?
John 17:1 “These words spake Yahshua, and lifted his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee.”
* Yahshua was clearly speaking to our Father in heaven. As you continue to read in John 17, notice how Yahshua calls himself the Son, calls The Father "the only true Elohim," acknowledges (several times) that the Father sent him, prays that the men that were given him would "be one" and "be one in us"... and never declares that He is equal to/the same deity as the Father.
Does Yahshua acknowledge Yahweh as His Elohim?
Revelation 3:12 “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my Elohim, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my Elohim, and the name of the city of my Elohim, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my Elohim: and I will write upon him my new name.”
The Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Father. So then, who IS the Son?
Yahweh created The Son, Yahshua, whom is the Word that we read of in John 1:1 (Word in Greek is logos meaning Divine Expression, from Strong’s number 3056). As I mentioned in Part 1 of this article series (the following passages came to mind again, I guess they are important!), Yahshua pre-existed with Yahweh and was the first of creation, created all things, was our perfect sacrifice on the stake, and is head of the assembly (John 1:1-14; Colossians 1:12-19).
We have witnesses in the New Testament who attest to the identity of the Messiah Yahshua. Paul (trained by Yahshua Himself, Galatians 1:11-12) fully knew and understood who Yahshua is, and knew about the headship of Yahweh, Yahshua, and man (1Corinthians 11:3). Peter and Nathanael, apostles of Yahshua, acknowledged Yahshua as the Son of Yahweh Elohim (Matthew 16:16; John 1:49). It is clear from these Scriptures that Yahshua is Messiah, under headship to Father Yahweh.
In summary, the Father Yahweh and the Son Yahshua are not part of the same deity and are not equal beings.
Yet the Son Yahshua definitely is important in Yahweh’s plan of salvation. Yahshua is our way to the Father, our advocate (John 14:6; 1John 2:1). Yahshua left us a perfect example of how to follow and obey Yahweh, and we are to walk as he walked (John 15:10; 1Peter 2:21; 1John 2:1-6) For sincere believers, baptism into the name of Yahshua is important in Yahweh’s plan for salvation (Acts 2:22-40; Romans Chapters 6-7)
What Scriptures tell us the significance of the Son’s name, Yahshua? Can’t I use any name?
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name YAHSHUA: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (See also Luke 1:30-32)
Acts 4:10-12 “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Yahshua Messiah of Nazareth, whom ye impaled, whom Yahweh raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. … Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
*We are told here that “there is none other name” so it does not make sense that any name will do. These key Scriptures plainly say that the name “Yahshua” is important for salvation.
More on how we know the name of the Son is “Yahshua” will be discussed in a Part 3 article, which I am very excited about as it’s almost done!
May we continue to study out the truth of Scriptures as we continue to seek and worship Father Yahweh, learn about the true identity of the Son, and follow Yahshua Messiah’s perfect example for us!
